W. J. Lewis

W. J. Lewis for many years living at what is familiarly called Patterson’s Corners, leaving only because of failing health, three years ago to live with a daughter in Detroit, passed away in that city Monday evening. He still retained his membership in the O. E. S. and Masonic orders of this place at the time of his death. The body was taken to Hamilton, Canada, on Wednesday and the funeral was held Thursday afternoon. Mr. Lewis was a highly respected and well known citizen of this community and his friends will hear of his passing with deep regret.

Editor’s note:

Patterson’s Corners was a small 19th-century crossroads settlement in what is now Oneida Township, near the center of the township. Evidence from Eaton County histories and biographical sketches suggests the name came from the Patterson family, who settled in Oneida Township in 1854 and owned land in Section 16.
