Death of a Roxland Pioneer
Mrs. Geo. Y. Green, of Roxand, whose serious illness was mentioned w in our last issue, died Friday, Nov. 15th, aged 73 years. Funeral services of were held at the Johnson school house Sunday, conducted by Rev. B. S. Pratt. The burial was in the Partiow cemetery.
Mrs. Margaret Rose was born in Belmont county, Ohio, in August, 1822. She removed with her parents to Richland county, Ohio, residing there until she was married to George Y. Green, Oct. 20th, 1852. About seven years later they moved to Michigan, living with his brother Wm. until he could build a house, the erection of which was commenced the next day after their arrival, on the farm they occupied for thirty-six years and up to the present time. The deceased was an every-day Christian, beloved and respected by relatives and friends. She was a kind mother, a good, true neighbor, and surely the influence of her life and work for good will follow her. She leaves an aged husband, twodaughters (Mrs. Ella Baldwin and Mrs. Ada Saxton) and three grand-children, who deeply moun the loss that they feel is her gain, resigned as she was to go home.
As illustrating the scrupulous care the deceased bestowed upon her household furniture, we are told that the same cook store-an elevated over purchased when they located on the farm thirty-six years ago, is still doing eduty, having been in daily use all those years: also, the copper boiler, dust pan, milk-strainer, etc., that were r originally purchased with the old store are still in use.
