The Last Roll Call

 Jeremiah J. Brown was born in Lexington, Ohio, August 9, 1839, and died in San Jose, Calif., December 24, 1910.

His early life was spent on a farm near Lansing, but at his country’s call he enlisted Oct. 25, 1861, in Company B, 2d Reg. U. S. Sharpshooters. He was wounded at Antietam and after seven months in the military hospital, received an honorable discharge March 16, 1863, and came home to Lansing. He soon after entered the agricultural school where he remained one term. He then clerked for Mort. Coles. He was married Oct. 29, 1863, to Miss Sarah A. McGeorge, a resident of Lansing.

In 1868 they moved to Okemos, where he lived until 1893, when he moved to Grand Ledge, remaining here until 1902, when he went to San Jose, Calif., where he died. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and two brothers, A. N. Brown of Lansing and A. B. Brown of Teague, Texas, and a number of nieces and nephews and a vast number of friends.

Mr. Brown was a man who made friends wherever he went, a good citizen, a kindly neighbor and a sincere patriot. His last years were clouded by an ever increasing deafness which cut him off from the fellowship he so much enjoyed. His last illness was full of suffering and he was ready and anxious to go. His funeral was conducted by the Masonic order from the family residence, the burial at Oak Hill cemetery, San Jose, California.
