Grand Ledge Shocked by the Death of C. S. Furniss
He Had Always Appeared Well and Cherry
All of Grand Ledge was shocked when the news went.out last Friday night that Clayton 8. Furniss had answered the final summons, Only a few days before he had been at his place of business as usual and while his more Intimate friends knew that he was slightly indisposed, they were entirely unprepared for the sad tidings.
Mr. Furniss with his wife came to Grand Ledge about eleven years ago and purchased the stock of the Halsted Drug Company and conducted the store on the north side of the river for a few months, before moving to the present location where by honest, upright dealfng and genial courtesy, he not only built up a nice business but made many friends.
The deceased was born in Nashville, April 1886 and was nearly forty seven years of age. He was a member of the Royal Arch Chapter of Masons, also a member and attendant of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are the widow, one sister and three brothers, Mrs. Fred Brumm and Von Furniss of Nashville; George of Battle Creek and Hugh of Hastings. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at two o’clock at the Strobel Homestead, Rev, G. E. Wright officiating. Business places of the city were closed during the hour of the service. Interment was made in Nashville. The pall bearers were neighbors and close friends, Frank Fitzgerald, Bert Townsend, Dr. Charles Baribeau, Dr. D. M: Bouck, Roy Kirkpatrick and Bert Simons. Mr, Furniss was active In business, social and church circles. Unpretentious and kindly he had made for himself a distinet place ln the community.
