Excellent Program

A special meeting of Grand Ledge Chapter, No. 14, O. E. S. was held Friday evening, January 27th at Masonic Hall. Covers were laid for more than one hundred and a fine dinner was served. Any number of the brothers making very efficient waiters. Especially attractive was the chariot salad arranged and planned for by Mrs. Henry Luethjohann. Following the dinner the degree work was given to four teachers, the Misses Conrad, Koebe, Pettis and Cross. Mrs. Ethel Alexander was received from Crystal Falls Chapter. We were honored by the request of the Ann Arbor Chapter to confer the degrees upon Miss Cross who had been elected to membership in ber home Chapter in Ann Arbor. Following the initiatory work, the officers put on a special drill work and floral service. The work was witnessed by one of the largest audiences ever in attendance at such work here. A large number of visitors were present, each one complimenting the corps of officers Miss Henrietta Hadlow of Detroit and past matron of this chapter gave a very inspiring and impressive talk closing with the last stanza of the beautiful poem, Thanatopsis. Mrs. Hunt from Palacios, Texas told of her wide experience in visiting numbers of chapters in different states but having witnessed no ceremony so beautiful and Impressive as that given in Grand Ledge. Mrs. Susan Nostrant of Lansing, a past matron sent a long distance call at this time saying that due to being a little overdone because of celebrating her ninety second birthday she regretted not being able to be present. Pleasing reminiscences given in a rather humorous way by W. R. Clarke were much enjoyed. Chapter closed in regular form to meet in regular session Friday evening, Feb. 3rd at 7:30 o’clock. A social hour with cards will follow. All members of the O. E. S. are cordially invited.
