The Passing of Robt. Sommerville

Was a Resident of Oneida Fifty-Eight Years

Robert Somerville, a respected resident of Oneida township for nearly sixty years, died at his home southwest of this city Friday, June 14, at the advanced age of over 83 years.

Mr. Somerville was born in Glasgow, Scotland, November 23, 1828. He came to America and located in Canada when he was 18 years of age. Afterward he went to Medina, N. Y., where he was later united in marriage to Miss Harriett Bailey. A few years later they came to Michigan and located on the farm near this city, in 1864, where his death occurred.

The deceased was identified with the advancement of the village and the township until failing health and the infirmities of age compelled him to rest, and for the past ten years he has lived quietly at home. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity.

Mrs. Somerville died in 1904, and one son, Frank Somerville, died in 1908. There survive two daughters, Mrs. Laura Mundon, who lives at the old home and with whom deceased had lived for several years, and Mrs. Anna Maxwell of Delhi, Mich. He also leaves three grandchildren, Miss Hattie Mundon, Robert and K. Florence Somerville of this city.

The funeral services were held at the home Monday at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. C. E. Pollok. Burial in Oakwood cemetery.
