Masonic Grand Lodge Visitation at Lansing

Several From Here Enjoy Banquet and Program

Those of the Grand Ledge Masons who availed themselves of attendance upon the occasion of the Grand Lodge visitation in Lansing Monday evening were well repaid for the effort. Lansing lodge No. 33 was the host to the Grand Lodge officers at the New Masonic Temple, a banquet and degree work.

At 6:30 banquet was given in the dining room, to about three hundred Masons from Lansing and. surrounding jurisdictions, Community singing was led by the Woolverine quartet, as well as some individual numbers. The evening was called “Senior Deacon” night in honor of the Senior Deacon of No. 33, and possibly the youngest in the state, Harold H. Schaberg, who also acted as toast master. Mr. Schaberg called upon Grand Treasurer Hugh McPherson, Past Grand Master Justice Fead, the Superintendent of the Masonic Home at Alma, and others. before calling upon Grand, Master Roscoe O. Boništeel who made the principal address of the evening. He talked on the “Business of the Grand Lodge” and gave the Masons an insight into the Grand body of Michigan Masons. He told of the work of the officers and committees, and traced the percapita funds from the local lodges. through the Grand Lodge to the worthy benevolences to which they are applied. He also spoke of what was being done by other states in Masonic activities. He announced. that on Saturday the first spade full of dirt would be turned with appropriate Masonic ceremonies at Alma for the new Masonic Home which was authorized by the last Grand Lodge. Following his well taken speech the Editor of the Lansing Masonic News presenated him with three volumes of the ‘News’ and Past Master Homer W. Miers presented to the Grand Master a certificate of honorary membership, paraphrasing a well known presentation address.

The Worshipful Master of No. 33 then announced that the degree of Entered Apprentice would be conferred in long form upon five candidates. This was a much enjoyed part of the evening. In the selection of his officers and degree team, Worshipful Master Sher man Reed has shown good insight in selection, for the degree work was given in perfect manner and not only were the candidates very much impressed, but also the spectators also.

Those attending from Grand Ledge were Master LRoy Briggs, Senior Warden Fred Luethjohann, Junior Warden Bob Rogers, Jerdan Cheesmund, Elmer Wier, E. Sibley and Roy Hunt. Several of the Wacousta members were also present with their Worshipful Master.
