A very sad fatal accident happened in Charlotte on Tuesday eyening about 7:30.

Mason, the ten years old son of Dr. and Mrs. G. M. Byington, the former a brother of Marr Byington of this city, while riding a scooter, reached the street just as an auto came round the corner. The car was not driven at an excessive rate of speed but the driver was upon the child too late to prevent the accident. The skull was crushed and the boy died soon after. The lad had been attending a military school this summer while his parents were in California for the benefit of Mrs. Byington’s health. Mason, had just returned and was staying in the home of a neighbor to be ready to attend school.

A six year old sister witnessed the accident. The family are doubly bereaved as they lost a small child this spring. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the stricken parents at this time.
